Keratin Treatment FAQs
1. What is a keratin treatment?
A keratin treatment is a chemical salon procedure that uses keratin protein to reduce frizz, straighten curls, and make hair healthier and shinier.
2. Is a keratin treatment permanent?
No. Keratin treatments typically last 2-6 months, depending on the aftercare products used.
3. How long does the keratin treatment last?
The duration of the keratin treatment varies depending on the type of product and the application method. We offer four different keratin treatments, and results typically last between 2 to 6 months. The longevity also depends on how the treatment is applied and the aftercare routine used.
4. What is the shelf life of Inova Professional keratins?
The shelf life is up to 2 years after opening.
5. How much should I charge for a keratin treatment?
Pricing varies based on location, hair length/thickness, and time spent on the client. On average, prices range from $200 to $700 in the U.S.
6. Should I apply color before or after a keratin treatment?
It depends on the type of keratin treatment you're using. If you're using an amino acid-based keratin treatment, it is recommended to apply color before the treatment. For other types of keratin treatments, color can typically be applied either before or after.
7. Will a keratin treatment damage my hair?
In most cases, a keratin treatment is designed to repair and strengthen your hair, not damage it. Keratin is the protein that makes up the outer layer of your hair, so the treatment helps restore shine, reduce frizz, and improve overall hair health. However, proper aftercare is essential to maintain the best results.
8. How do I know if a keratin treatment is right for me?
If you struggle with frizz or spend time straightening or blow-drying, keratin will help you achieve smoother, healthier hair.
9. Can I get a keratin treatment if my hair is dyed or bleached?
It depends on the technology used in the keratin treatment. Some keratin treatments are safe for dyed or bleached hair and can even help restore shine and improve hair health. However, it's important to choose a treatment that is compatible with color-treated hair to avoid any adverse effects. A hair strand test is recommended to ensure the treatment is suitable for your hair type.
10. What’s the difference between One-Step Kera-Quik, 24 Hour Gold, and Ultra Hair Smoothing keratins?
- One-Step Kera-Quik: Organic keratin that is free of formaldehyde and parabens. It lasts 3-5 months and can be rinsed out the same day.
-
24 Hour Gold and Ultra Hair Smoothing: These treatments contain formaldehyde and parabens and offer longer-lasting results, typically 4-6 months. The 24 Hour Gold requires a 24-hour wait before washing your hair, while the Ultra Hair Smoothing requires a 72-hour wait.
The choice of treatment depends on your hair care needs and desired results.
